"Why wouldn't he be?" He says, like he's confused that it isn't obvious. He turns his frown back to the floor.
"I don't understand what would make him change his mind," He starts. "The fact he turned on me was the most normal thing that's happened here. It's not advantageous to have me on his side until I've got power so it can't be that. Perhaps to throw me off until he's worked out a better way to get back at me. But then what? I can handle an ambush. Maybe he wants to blackmail me? Use something I've told too much of. But I don't know." His eyes bore through the hardwood, restlessly and desperately trying to calculate.
